Many believe that the Las Vegas Raiders would trade up in the draft to get a quarterback. But the team’s offensive line needs are so great that they would think about jumping up a few positions.
A trade proposal that would have had the Raiders advance to the Atlanta Falcons’ choice at No. 8 in order to choose a right tackle was put out by ESPN’s Bill Barnwell. In exchange for the No. 8 pick, Las Vegas would send defensive end Malcolm Koonce, the No. 77 pick, and the No. 13 pick to the Falcons.
In a column published April 18, Barnell stated, “The Falcons would move down five spots and add another third-round pick to their collection.” Along with Maxx Crosby, they would also select Koonce, a promising pass-rusher who led the Raiders with eight sacks and seventeen knockdowns in 11 starts the previous season. One pass-rusher is never too many for a team, but Koonce is a free agency after 2024, and Las Vegas will likely want to see what it has in Tyree Wilson, a 2023 top-10 choice who was unremarkable in his rookie season. Although losing Koonce would be painful, this deal would seem to be fair in that the Jimmy Johnson chart values him at a fourth-round pick.
This trade would be good value for the Falcons but it’s difficult to see how it’s worthwhile for the Raiders to make unless a quarterback they like drops.
