The Dodgers have made a minor trade, sending left-handed pitcher Matt Gage to the New York Mets for cash considerations. Noah Camras of Dodgers Nation announced the news on social media.
Although Gage did not pitch for the Dodgers, he did play at Triple-A. Over 20 games, he had an ERA of 4.29 with Oklahoma City. His WHIP was 1.38 and he had a record of 1-3.
In the transaction that sent pitcher Caleb Ferguson to the New York Yankees, he was acquired. Gage was decided to be moved by Los Angeles since they didn’t have room for him in the bullpen.
In 2023, Gage made his main league debut with the Houston Astros. During the course of five games, his ERA was 2.70. If the seasoned left-hander wants to keep playing, he must now establish himself in New York.
As anticipated, the Dodgers called up Justin Wrobleski from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday to make his major league debut in the series finale at Dodger Stadium against the Brewers. Wrobleski will also provide the starting rotation, which has been struggling for the past week and a half, a much-needed boost.
With an average of just 4.38 innings over the last eight games, Dodgers starters have given up 32 runs in 35 innings since Gavin Stone shut out the White Sox on June 26.
When asked on Saturday if a whole rotation can experience a slump, manager Dave Roberts replied, “We’re in one right now.” On the other hand, when a beginning finds success, the other players tend to want to match or outdo him, which is when things get interesting. Though I believe we’ve experienced it, it’s kind of in contrast right now.
Three starts into a longer stint in the rotation, Landon Knack is already well into it. Following Sunday’s mock game, Clayton Kershaw will likely need to make at least two more rehab starts before making a comeback. While Yoshinobu Yamamoto is still a long way off—playing catch this next week is regarded as a significant step—Walker Buehler is making an effort to sort things out.
